Development Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Development Campaigns  

  • annual campaigns (direct mail)
  • individual giving
  • corporate donations
  • foundation funding
  • events management/oversight and third party event support
  • assist the Director with the Major Gift and Planned Giving programs

 2.  Grant Writing and Oversight

  • write, edit, submit and monitor grant proposals as well as progress and final reports
  • ensure that submissions meet goals, mission and current organizational need

3.  Budget & Planning

  • with the Development Director, create annual departmental budgets
  • track all development revenues and expenses
  • contribute to Leadership Team discussions regarding annual budgeting and strategic objectives

 4.  Marketing/Communications

  • develop and implement marketing and communications materials
  • write newsletters, monthly E-News copy, brochure copy, website text, annual          reports, articles, op-ed pieces, media advisories etc.
  • oversee and update VWTH website
  • oversee and manage VWTH social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc)
  • responsible for any VWTH advertising and promotions

 5.  Management of Staff and Contractors

  • responsible for hiring, evaluation, disciplinary action up to and including termination of Development Assistant/ Development Associate
  • responsible for oversight of any contractors engaged by the Development Department

 6.  Volunteer Leadership and Support

  • provide training and support to fundraising volunteers in conducting their roles and responsibilities in regards to fundraising

 7.  Database and Records Management

  • ensure that the VWTH donor database is maintained and managed; advise on upgrades, steamed processes etc
  • ensure that privacy, ethics and integrity are maintained in relation to donor records for all files and systems

 8.  Leadership Team

  • as a member of the Leadership Team, attend and participate in meetings as required

 9.  Other - undertake other duties and special projects as required, where appropriate and as time permits

 Qualifications

University degree is essential and certificate in fundraising (i.e., CFRE or in process of attaining CFRE or other designation) is preferred.

 Education, Training and Experience

 

This position requires a proven track-record of successful non-profit fundraising experience with three to five years of progressive responsibilities. Additionally, experience in marketing and communications is helpful. Strong writing skills are essential.

 Essential knowledge

  • annual campaign management, including direct mail
  • special event oversight experience
  • demonstrated record of fundraising planning, business planning, implementation and evaluation
  • demonstrated experience with communications, social media and advertising
  • demonstrated experience with budget management, marketing and public relations
  • skill in handling sensitive topics while maintaining confidentiality
  • skill and experience in working with Boards and other volunteers

   Additional Information

  • The Development Manager is required to maintain confidentiality regarding organizational operations, fiscal management and donor information
  • Use of own vehicle is required
  • Scheduling flexibility, including evening and weekend work, is required

About Victoria Women’s Transition House

Established in 1975, VWTH provides emergency shelter, counselling, supports and services to women of all ages, with and without children, fleeing domestic abuse. The Society strives to prevent and eliminate abuse through education, advocacy and partnerships. We operate an 18-bed shelter, a 22-unit third-stage housing complex for older women, a 24-hour crisis and information line as well as community education and counselling programs for women and children from our Community Office. We offer domestic abuse victim service supports for women at the Victoria and Colwood Courthouses and specialized services for high-risk domestic abuse cases through the Regional Domestic Violence Unit (RDVU). Each year, VWTH helps more than 2,000 women and 150+ children.
